Important Dates:

Important Announcements:
- Be sure to send warm clothes every day. The playground can feel really cold with the wind!
- Continue to help your child learn to tie shoes.
- Water bottles continue to be necessary- kids really miss them when they don't have them.
- Thank you for sending lip balm- it has been useful already!
What we are working on:
- Second Step (Social Emotional Learning): Feelings and Empathy
- Phonics (sounds that letters make): This month we will learn about glued sounds. These are sounds that go together and get only one tap when we are sounding out words to read or spell. We will learn the following glued sounds: -ang, -ing, -ong, -ung, -ank, -ink, -onk, unk.
- Reading Comprehension (understanding what we read or what is read to us): 1. Author's Purpose: to entertain, to inform or to persuade. 2. Sequencing
- Sight Words for this Month: why, by, my, try, put, two, too, very, also, some, come
- Writing: writing how-to text
- Math: this month we will concentrate on place value- an important concept for all first graders to grasp
- Science/Social/Health: Economics: needs and wants. How sleep makes me healthy?

Homework (in addition to what is listed below your child is expected to get their passport (notebook) signed each night):
- Monday- reading folder with something for child to read/practice
- Tuesday- reading folder with something for child to read/practice
- Wednesday- math folder (will also include a Second Step worksheet most weeks) all these worksheets will be due the following Wednesday, but you can return the folder with the completed worksheets inside whenever they are all completed.
- Thursday-reading folder with something for child to read/practice
- Friday- reading folder with a book for a parent/adult to read to child
