The Final Update!
Whew! The year went by fast! Hard to believe these kids will be 6th graders after just 4 more school days. I have truly enjoyed working with this group of students, and I will miss them! I hope you all have a relaxing summer. You can help your child be ready to succeed in Middle School by encouraging them to continue reading and staying up on their math facts over the summer.

Please read below for news end of the year events and information.

Math:    During the final few days of math, we will be wrapping up our million dollar projects; most kids found out it was harder to spend a million dollars than they thought! We will also be doing a "Math Escape Room" this week, along with our final calendar math quiz.

It will be important to continue over the summer practicing the basic math facts for multiplication and division so they definitely know them for 6th grade math. 5-10 minutes of practice each night would really help. Even just quizzing your child in the car on a ride to school or the store is a simple way to get that practice in. Thanks in advance for your support in this area. Some other good ways to practice these skills include: flash cards, play Yahtzee together, or login to the "XtraMath" website and practice on the computer. Your child has that login information (as well as IXL) taped to the inside cover of their planner.

Social Studies:
We will be completing a summary page of the Bill of Rights and then will participate in a "FINAL JEOPARDY" which will review all of the information we have learned in Social Studies this year.

NEWS AND INFORMATION:
5th Grade End of the Year Picnic Day: will be on the last day of school, May 23. We will spend the day at Southside Park. Students may bring outdoor gear like frisbees, jump ropes etc... but NO ELECTRONICS, and they will be responsible for this equipment throughout the day. Students again should dress for the weather and bring/wear sunscreen, and again will need a sack lunch.

There are many important events and activities coming up in the last 2 months of school. Check out our calendar in the link below so you don't miss anything!

Do Life Big:
Congratulations to our April and May Do Life Big winners: Ben S., Faith Z, Libby G, and Ivan S.  Great job and keep doing life BIG!

In 5th grade we take our job as leaders of Raven Stream very seriously! We want to be role models for the younger kids in the building, and we do that by having integrity  and trying to do life big everyday! Each month Mr. Drazan and I will recognize one student from each class who excels in this area. At the start of the year, we had our kick off for this project (see presentation that was shared on the link below). Students made posters to bring home because we want them to Do Life Big at home and in the community as well! We would love to receive photos of your child making a positive difference at home or in the community so have them pose with their poster and email them to Mr. Drazan or I so I can share them with the students and add them to our slide for the end of the year.
