Screen-Free & Mayo Health Week
Raven Stream Families,
We are excited to offer the opportunity for your family to join us in participating in Screen-Free & Mayo Health Week from May 5-11. We know there is value in what technology can provide for us in our lives, but we also recognize the importance of finding a balance with it. Screen-Free Week isn’t about going without technology completely, just a chance to put down those entertainment screens and do something else. You might be surprised at what you find. Also, in conjunction with Mayo Health Clinic, we will be participating in their wellness week. There are daily activities we will talk through at school included in this flyer.
At school, we will talk about options other than technology for students to try throughout the week. This information provides some suggestions to consider for your child that can help out as they age. In classrooms, we will give students an opportunity to share what activities they have enjoyed and get ideas from each other. At home, you are invited to participate in whatever ways work best for your family. This could provide a chance for your family to talk through when you need your device for work or school compared to when it is a want for entertainment or passing time. As we continue to see an increase in the use of social media with our upper elementary students, this is a time you could talk about the challenges around these platforms and navigating social situations over the next few years.
Each student will come home with this calendar to use if you choose to participate. You are welcome to print off more for your family if you’d like. We look forward to hearing about our student’s screen-free activities! |

Summer Math & Reading Challenges
We are excited to offer two challenges for students this summer to continue their reading growth and mathematical thinking skills!
Math Challenge: Use this brochure to learn and play dice and card games that reinforce math skills. All you need is a pair of dice, deck of cards and the brochure. Email a picture to Mr. Engebretson during the summer of you playing one of the games to be displayed in the fall.
Reading Challenge: Students can request 3 postcards to write to Mr. Engebretson this summer, and he will respond with a postcard. After reading a book, write to Mr. Engebretson about a favorite part, a connection to another book or your life, something funny from the book or anything else you want to tell him.
- Send an email to Susie Bennett ([email protected]) by Thursday, May 15 with your child’s name and the request to participate, and we will provide 3 postcards to your child.
Raven Stream Summer Library Hours: Our library will be open for checkout this summer!! Stop in for some great books on Wednesday mornings between 9:30-11:00. We will have a story time at 10:00 each week with a guest reader.
