What a Great Start!!
The beginning of each school year is filled with anticipation, excitement, worry, laughter and preparation. At Raven Stream, we believe in the first six weeks as foundational for setting up a successful school year with routines for functioning throughout the school, expectations for exceptional learning and strong relationships to build community. One structure we use is to set clear, positive expectations for our students around three key ideas: 1) Respect Myself, 2) Respect Others, and 3) Respect Raven Stream. Staff will use this common terminology as they teach students our school wide expectations and show examples of what it looks like. Support from parents at home in using this terminology or reiterating these concepts helps students be successful. You can find more information here about the many ways we encourage RESPECT at Raven Stream.

Safety & Security: Every school district in the state is required to conduct a specific number of drills every year in three areas: fire, weather, and lockdown. Each drill is important for preparing our students to respond in one of these unlikely situations. Our teachers and staff approach each drill in an age-appropriate manner with our elementary students, providing just enough information for students to understand the importance of practicing, without adding unnecessary stress to the situation. This week, we will have our first school wide lockdown drill. Knowing this allows you the opportunity to discuss the drill with your child. We also encourage you to limit this to an age-appropriate explanation, without using unnecessary details for your child. At school, we emphasize that following an adult’s directions will ensure that everyone is safe. Please reach out to your child’s teacher or me, if you have any questions.
Lunch Visitors: We are happy to have you join your child for lunch after you have checked in at the office. We encourage you to wait until after the first several weeks of school and limit your visits to a special day, as lunch is an important time for students to socialize with their peers. As a guest, you will sit at the grade level lunch table with your child. Please bring food only for your child, not classmates. We ask that you do not attend recess following lunch to limit additional adults on the playground and to allow your child to play with his/her friends.
